Two by two

Just to make things even more fun; I went for a scan today and found out I am having a second set of twins.

So dieting is *definately* off the menu!

    Dieting my big fat ass…

  8. Congrats! My sister-in-law is having twin girls at the end of January and we’re all so excited. Be prepared for lots of attention… our friends have 18-month-old twins and everywhere they go they’re asked “Are they twins?! They are? AWWWWWW! How cute!”

    • With my girls I used to get a lot of whispering, followed by “Are they twins?” as they don’t look anything alike, and one is quite a bit taller than the other 🙂

  9. Two sets of twins? You so need your own reality show. 😛

  10. Wow! Congrats!

  11. Wow! Good luck!

  12. Marvelous news! Congratulations!

  13. Wow!! Congratulations!

Did you know that research shows that women of size have a higher rate of twinning? No one knows why, and not every study shows it….but enough do that it probably has some truth to it. Certainly does from your sample size of one!

Definitely eat well, with plenty of protein. There are a number of folks out there in the birth community that believe that twin moms who really work on getting enough nutrition and enough protein and not restricting their weight gain etc. have better outcomes. Obviously there are other variables at work as well….but excellent nutrition is really crucial in twin pregnancies.

I always think of the plus-sized twin mom (whose story I have on my site) who was told to eat only 1800 calories per day (with twins!) and to drink Slim-Fast to keep her weight gain down. Her twins were born prematurely. Hard to conclusively prove a connection because of all the variables involved, but I think there’s a real chance that perhaps her twins came early because they’d get better nourished outside than in. Sad.

Anyhow, congrats again, and definitely emphasize good nutrition! Do NOT be restrictive…..but then we know you wouldn’t be. Good for you! If only more medical professionals would have the same kind of common sense.

    • I had seen that, about the higher rate of twinning is plus-size women (being older or taller than average is another risk factor, apparently). I was always going to be a sitting duck, though, due to family history.

  14. To everyone: Thank you for your good wishes! I’m still trying to get my head around the news. I knew, deep down inside, there was more than one but to actually find out it’s true… plus add that to our current living situation being a little unstable and I’m feeing a bit stressed at the moment. But I’ll get there!

    🙂
